Borat earns surprise nominations
It’s awards season yet again! Luckily Borat is around to spice up the often dull proceedings.
Incredibly, the politically incorrect mocumentary "Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" picked up nominations for best comedy or musical and a best comic actor nod for its irreverent star Sacha Baron Cohen.
Although "Borat" has been a box-office hit, taking in about $120 million in the United States alone, few people expected it to be nominated for an award.
"It was the furthest thing from my mind," "Borat" director Larry Charles said of the nomination. Charles said he believed Cohen was a comic visionary who had "organically synthesized Charlie Chaplin and Andy Kaufman into a post-modern comic hero."
Andy Kaufman… maybe! Charlie Chaplin? Those are some big shoes!
